Hydroforming press for US Customer: Successful factory acceptance test

Krefeld, February 05th 2024 – A customer from the US visited the Siempelkamp Group: The US company was a guest in Krefeld to conduct the factory acceptance test for its second hydroforming press made by Siempelkamp, which was ordered in 2022.

Factory acceptance test: Customer team with Siempelkamp project team, on the right project manager Jan Schürmanns

Siempelkamp´s customer is a leading supplier of flow control products for a variety of applications in the US and abroad. The current order is the second placed by the customer. This particular project began in 2022. Production of this new press, which has a capacity of 7.5 MN vertically and 3 MN horizontally, will start in 2024.

In hydroforming, metallic tubes or hollow bodies are formed in a closed forming tool by means of internal pressure. Siempelkamp's hydroforming presses produce complex workpiece shapes in longitudinal and cross-section. These are used in the automotive industry as chassis parts, pipe branching elements, exhaust parts or for lightweight frames. For this customer in particular, the hydroforming press is intended for the production of pipe sections.

Together with the customer delegation, the commissioning team carried out the factory acceptance test at Siempelkamp's Krefeld site – successfully! During the trial, tests were carried out under real production conditions on tools brought in by the customer. The parts were formed according to customer specifications; everything went as planned and desired. The press manufactured in Germany can now be dismantled into larger functional assemblies and reassembled in the US according to the plug & play principle. This significantly reduces installation times on site and enables a smooth handover for the start of production.

"Thanks to this proven procedure, we are also significantly reducing the time required for reassembly and final start-up at the customer's site in the current project," says Jan Schürmanns, project manager at Siempelkamp. Soon this Hydroforming press will start its journey to the USA as soon as the foundation has been completed at the plant.
