What is SMC?
SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) is a glass fiber-reinforced thermoset material processed as sheet-like semi-finished product – ideal for the series production of lightweight and stable components.
Poperties:
- Reinforced with glass fibers
- Non-conductive – ideal for electrical insulation
- Corrosion-resistant
- High strength at low weight
- Good surface quality directly from the mold
Processing:
- Delivered as roll or sheet material
- Shaped under pressure and temperature using compression molding
- Short cycle times for high production volumes
Typical Applications:
- Automotive parts (e.g. hoods, interior trims, seat structures, battery housings)
- Aerospace interior components
- Industry & infrastructure: electrical enclosures, insulation panels, boxes and covers
