SIEMPELKAMP ContiRoll®

The continuous press

SIEMPELKAMP ContiRoll®

Continuous research

The ContiRoll® continuous press has always been one of our most innovative concepts. Our research and development has repeatedly rethought this concept and developed it further with a visionary approach. It ensures that our customers receive exactly the product their markets demand – furniture boards, boards for interior fittings, laminate flooring, ultra-thin boards, refined boards, lightweight boards, boards made from rapidly renewable raw materials.

The ContiRoll® brings together almost 40 years of consistent further development of SIEMPELKAMP press technology. More than 360 presses have been sold and are in operation worldwide. The ContiRoll® chronology has now reached the ninth generation. Its key achievements compared with previous generations: an extended flexible press infeed, an innovative heating concept, a new type of hydraulic system, and increased press speed.

The ContiRoll® hydraulic concept

Maintaining tolerances, producing high-quality products

The hydraulic system of the ContiRoll® Generation 9 is precisely designed for the production spectrum of the plant operators. It can be configured, for example, to meet the specific requirements of ultra-thin/thin-board production or lightweight-board production.

In interaction with the hydraulic system, thickness feedback plays a particularly important role. Even when a deviation in product quality has been detected, a few square meters of scrap board may still be produced because an incorrect product thickness first has to be compensated via thickness feedback.

We have therefore perfected the thickness-measurement method of the ContiRoll® Generation 9 in order to ensure at all times that a high-quality product is produced, even at maximum production capacity. The solution for a thickness-measurement method that is independent of all machine influencing factors was implemented by means of a separate design. A statically stable, self-contained measuring frame serves as a solid reference dimension point – decoupled from all thermal and static influencing factors.

ContiRoll® Ecodrive for greater energy efficiency

The Ecodrive drive system for the ninth generation of the ContiRoll® has already proven itself in practice. This is a synchronous motor technology that provides improved speed constancy, operates significantly more energy efficiently than earlier concepts, and is extremely maintenance-friendly. The ContiRoll Ecodrive system offers at least 7% energy-saving potential in full-load operation and up to 14% energy savings in partial-load operation – and this with optimum efficiency. A consistently high torque across the entire production speed range up to 2,500 mm/sec is regarded as an important system characteristic.

ContiRoll® Generation 9 NEO

With extended and fully flexible press infeed

For the first time in its history, the ContiRoll® is being offered in two design variants in Generation 9. In addition to the design with a flexible infeed, our research and development department has developed the ContiRoll® Generation 9 NEO as a second variant. NEO stands for New Entry Option, in other words for a doubled infeed booster heating-platen length with special flexibility. The extended, fully flexible press infeed results in better venting of the incoming press mat. In combination with the matrix hydraulic system, the infeed can be bent in the longitudinal and transverse directions. The advantages: the venting of materials that are difficult to vent can be improved and higher feed speeds are possible.

Another advantage: with the ContiRoll® Generation 9 NEO, individual control of the cylinders is possible. This allows very sensitive closed-loop control of the press profile so that product quality is increased and grinding allowances are reduced. Following the “one fits all” principle, different raw materials can be processed on one press, with reconfiguration after each product change. Because all cylinders are designed as differential cylinders, the press can be opened easily at any point. The heated-through mat is better steamed through, and pressure control over the press length can be implemented as required. In combination with all the innovations mentioned, this leads to higher feed speed and productivity.

This makes it possible to reliably achieve increases in production speed of up to 30%. The potential of the increased energy input at the beginning of the pressing process is a guarantee for significantly reduced heating time factors and a corresponding increase in the performance of the ContiRoll®.

The new ContiRoll® Generation 9i

Even greater reliability, performance, and a new access concept

The latest version of the ContiRoll® continuous press, marketed under the name ContiRoll® Generation 9i, delivers optimizations in three key aspects: reliability, performance, and access to the press. At LIGNA 2023 we are presenting the latest variant of Generation 9 under the name ContiRoll® Generation 9i: “i” for “intelligent” and “innovative”. The proven and sophisticated design of our press has received updates that redefine the central triad of reliability, performance, and access to the press for plant operators.
