From the first drilled heated platen press to a full-scope plant and service provider.
The origins of our corporate group date back to 1883, when Gerhard Siempelkamp revolutionized the textile industry with the drilled heated platen presses he developed and thus laid the foundation for the establishment of the SIEMPELKAMP Group.
1883
Company founded
Gerhard Siempelkamp founds the company. The drilled heated platen presses he developed revolutionize the textile industry.
Over more than 13 decades, SIEMPELKAMP’s product and service portfolio, as well as the technological advancement of its machines and plants, has evolved into a global system provider for a wide range of customer industries such as wood-based materials, metal forming, composite materials, decommissioning of nuclear plants, and complex and extremely heavy castings.
Iron and metal foundry
To supply castings for the machine factory, the SIEMPELKAMP iron and metal foundry is established.
SIEMPELKAMP presses
SIEMPELKAMP presses enjoy an increasingly high reputation. They are now also built for additional applications such as metal forming.
Fiber presses
The first fiber presses and the associated drying plants and conveying systems are developed. This year marks the entry into process technology.
Start of overseas exports
First overseas exports to the USA of plywood presses and equipment.
First plants for particleboard
Construction of the first complete plant for the production of particleboard.
MS Otto Hahn
The foundry develops and builds the primary shielding of the nuclear reactor of the nuclear-powered merchant ship MS “Otto Hahn”.
MDF plant
Construction of the first MDF plant.
Castor® casks
Start of development and production of Castor® casks for transporting radioactive material for GNS (Gesellschaft für Nuklear-Service mbH) by the SIEMPELKAMP foundry.
Plants for OSB boards
A new product is born: OSB boards – manufactured on SIEMPELKAMP plants.
1985
ContiRoll®
The revolution: With a new type of continuous press for wood-based material production, the ContiRoll®, SIEMPELKAMP makes history. With the ContiRoll®, a new era in wood-based panel production begins: The press enables continuous and thus industrial production of wood-based panels with high capacity – efficient, precise, and as an integrated component of complete plants.
ATR Industrie-Elektronik GmbH
(now SIEMPELKAMP Automation)
Integration of ATR Industrie-Elektronik GmbH, a specialist in the manufacture of switchgear and in the development and production of measurement and control electronics.
SIEMPELKAMP NIS Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH
Siempelkamp NIS Ingenieurgesellschaft is established as a service provider and manufacturer-independent supplier of turnkey systems for industrial companies and energy plants.
New world record
A moving beam with a weight of 260 t is cast in the SIEMPELKAMP foundry.
Longest ContiRoll®
SIEMPELKAMP builds the world’s largest ContiRoll press: 76.9 meters.
Metso Panelboard GmbH
Integration of Metso Panelboard GmbH. All products and services of Metso presses and energy plants are transferred to SIEMPELKAMP.
Hombak Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH
Integration of Hombak Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH, a specialist in size-reduction technology, into the SIEMPELKAMP Group.
Investment in large machining centers
SIEMPELKAMP invests in new large machining centers at the Krefeld site that enable machining of the largest castings.
Büttner Energie- und Trocknungstechnik GmbH (now SIEMPELKAMP Energy & Drying Solutions GmbH)
Merger of Büttner Gesellschaft für Trocknungs- und Umwelttechnik mbH and SIEMPELKAMP Energy Systems GmbH (originating from Metso Panelboard GmbH). Since then, the companies have operated jointly as Büttner Energie- und Trocknungstechnik GmbH.
Pallmann Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG (now SIEMPELKAMP Size Reduction Solutions GmbH)
Closely associated with SIEMPELKAMP since 2012 through a minority shareholding, Pallmann Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, a leading provider of size-reduction technology, is fully integrated into the Group.
World record: 320 t
Seventh and, to date, still-held world record in SIEMPELKAMP casting technology: 320 t of molten iron are poured simultaneously from 5 ladles for the upper beam of a 50 MN forging press.
Largest order
SWISS KRONO SC, LLC orders an MDF/HDF plant for its Barnwell facility: the largest order in SIEMPELKAMP’s corporate history.
SIEMPELKAMP Logistics & Service GmbH
SIEMPELKAMP commissions the new service and logistics center in Bad Kreuznach, enabling its customers to receive the fastest possible spare parts supply within 24 hours, seven days a week.
