New open-die forging press for FuShun Special Steel Co.: Siempelkamp technology once again convinces customers in China

Krefeld, September 04, 2020 – New order for Siempelkamp: FuShun Special Steel Co., Ltd., a steel-production and forging company that is based in Fushun, Liaoning Province, in China, has placed an order for a 60/70 MN open-die forging press with a four-column push-down design. This is the second time that China’s market leader has chosen to work with Siempelkamp.

Siempelkamp open-die forging press in a four-column push-down design

The company has been successfully operating a 31.3/35-MN press made by Siempelkamp since 2012. The high-performance open-die forging press that this market leader for special alloys has ordered will expand its production capacities for components forged from high-alloy steels, titanium and nickel-based alloys that may weigh up to 60 tonnes each.

The plant design focuses on excellent forging quality, characterised by precision and speed. Special alloys require forging during particularly tight time frames and this plant with a maximum stroke rate of up to 120 s/min ensures that such forging is possible. The hydraulic direct pump drive with 14 main pumps comes with state-of-the-art technology. The ‘Siempelkamp intelligent Power System’ (iPS), for instance, that will also help the press meet the new demands that are being made on energy efficiency. The patented drive system has already proven itself in practice with energy savings of up to 30%. In conjunction with the ‘easy2forge’ computer-aided forging system and Siempelkamp’s Prod-IQ.basics process-control technology, it will make the entire plant more economical and cost-efficient. Siempelkamp’s own Condition Monitoring System (SCMS) will be used to continuously monitor the plant’s condition. The ‘DAHMOS’ data-acquisition handling and monitoring system will facilitate the analysis of processes in a targeted fashion.

Made in Germany + German Engineering
The mechanical core components, the hydraulic drive and control system along with the complete automation technology are to be produced at Siempelkamp’s location in Krefeld to deliver quality that is ‘made in Germany’. But production parts are also to be supplied in line with the principles of ‘German Engineering’ from Siempelkamp’s local production facilities in China as well as by the customer itself.

The new open-die forging press bundles Siempelkamp's many years of experience in the field of open-die and closed-die forging presses in a four-column design that achieves pressing forces of up to 500 MN. The new press is scheduled for delivery in July 2021, with production to commence in November 2021.
