Fire in Siempelkamp foundry rapidly under control

Krefeld (Germany) January 13, 2021 - On January 12, 2021, at about 6:00 p.m., a localized fire occurred at the Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH site during casting work. This was immediately brought under control by the Krefeld fire department. There were no other impacts beyond the direct location of the fire.

The molten iron then set fire to work materials and tools located in the immediate area of the hall, including a control cabinet. At no time there was any danger to the environment or local residents. Work was resumed in the foundry yesterday evening starting at 10:00 p.m. with the night shift.

Two employees of Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH have been admitted to surrounding hospitals for observation or treatment as a preventive measure. "One employee has already left the hospital. We are in close contact with the employees," explains Dirk Howe, spokesman for the management of Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH.

The cooperation with the authorities and the crisis management of Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH worked optimally. With the occurrence of the incident, all necessary safety measures were implemented immediately. The Krefeld fire department was informed immediately and was thus able to quickly bring the incident under control. Two crane operators of the foundry were able to independently make their way to the roof of the hall through the prescribed escape routes, which they were then able to leave by using an aerial ladder provided by the Krefeld Fire Department. "The management of Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH would like to thank the emergency services and the employees on site for the quick and trouble-free cooperation," emphasizes Dirk Howe.
