New Siempelkamp multi-daylight press for Weyerhaeuser

Krefeld, January 10, 2017 – just before year-end Siempelkamp received its last major order for 2016. Weyerhaeuser, North American manufacturer of wood-based panels, signed the contract for a multi-daylight press for OSB production on December 21, 2016.

With more than 117 years of company history and approximately 14,000 employees, Weyerhaeuser Company is one of the largest international forestry groups in the world.  Weyerhaeuser owns more than 13 million acres (5.25 million hectares) of timberland in the USA and manages an additional 14 million acres (5.65 million hectares) of forest located in Canada. Next to sustainable forestry management and extensive land ownership, Weyerhaeuser’s wood products business encompasses more than 30 manufacturing plants of lumber, panels, OSB and engineered wood products.

The new 8´ x 24´ 16-opening press will replace a similar press from the 1980s. The press will be integrated into the existing production line at the Grayling, Michigan location.

The contractual scope of supply includes the multi-daylight press with the necessary loader and unloader unit. The press and its components as well as the complete hydraulic and electrical systems, will be designed and built in Krefeld, Germany. The scope of supply includes automa-tion, drive and control technology including Dahmos® fast trending software.  

Delivery to site Grayling is scheduled for the first quarter in 2018 for installation and start-up of the equipment in summer 2018. The new press will manufacture OSB with a thickness ranging from 6.3 – 31.8 mm.
