Cast components for continuous operation

The invention of the tile press during the technical advancement of the 19th century made ceramic plates an everyday item that could be produced on an industrial scale. The laborious and time-consuming process of making tiles by hand became redundant. Thanks to what was at the time the innovative invention of the tile press, the industrial production of high-quality tiles became possible.

In a tile press, a liquid medium made from stone materials is pressed into a mold. Here, too, rapid development has taken place. While it was previously only possible to manufacture tiles with a maximum format of 150 x 150 mm, formats as large as 4,000 x 1,000 mm are now being produced.

Siempelkamp supplies tables and crossbeams for the construction of tile presses. These components are produced from thick-walled cast iron, and can be used in continuous operation for five to six years without being damaged. In terms of tensile stress, they must withstand millions of load cycles. This requires the cast iron part to have a clean microstructure, in order to absorb the stresses that are produced under continuous loading.
