Progressive optimisation solutions, safely developed
In cooperation with qualified partners from industry and technical colleges, Siempelkamp is active in the field of research and development, particularly to optimize products and processes.
Example of a finished development project:
Development of a core catcher
For more than 10 years Siempelkamp was the leading partner in decisively performing the experimental development of the so called core catcher system to manage core melt accidents, in the scope of national and European research programmes together with partners from the industry and research centers.
To this day, the unique large experiment COMAS regarding the simulation of melt distributuion formed the basis for the commercial order placed with Siempelkamp in November 2005 to supply the cast elements of the core catcher for Europe's most advanced nuclear power plant which is presently under construction at Olkiluoto, Finland.
Current examples of development projects:
Application of thermal spraying methods (HVOF)
to optimize the long term corrosion resistance of
nodular graphite cast elements under conditions
interim storage and final repositories
(project SHARK).
- Increase of the recycling share in nuclear cast
iron components to reduce costs for final
repositories (project FORM).
