Research & Development
Our knowledge grows with our customers
Our technical and technological expertise has been a crucial factor in the ongoing development of our company since 1883.
This expertise was created out of a principle of innovation which is particularly reflected in our own research and development center, one of the largest in the timber industry.
Siempelkamp has both the expertise and the technical equipment to secure the future viability of the Siempelkamp Machinery and Plants division for the wood, plastics and rubber industries as well as for metal forming.
Research, develop, optimize
Due to the increasingly complex nature of technology, development work in mechanical and plant engineering requires the collective expertise of a wide range of disciplines. An interdisciplinary team of technologists, chemists, physicists and process engineers researches and optimizes new processes, products and equipment.
The field of activity of the R&D Center is divided into three areas:
- Customer-specific investigations on existing plants
- Further development of existing machinery and units
- Development of new technologies, processes and machinery

With expertise and the right tools
The highly-skilled specialists in the Siempelkamp Research and Development Center have access to extensive technical equipment. The most important equipment for practical production of boards and machine testing include the following:
- A large test hall for testing prototypes under realistic production conditions
- A laboratory for testing raw materials and board products
- Mobile and stationary measuring technology for machines and for environmental protection and health and safety at work
- Development engineering for determining the most cost-effective and economical solution in terms of design
Extensive machine tests and design work is carried out in the test hall at Krefeld as part of development jobs. In addition, we are constantly working on improving the quality and reliability of our products. For example, we also test the manufacture of board products using the existing fleet of machines.
We go through all of the technological steps:
- Breaking (chopping, machining, fibrillation, grinding)
- Separation (sieving, sifting)
- Drying of chippings, fibers and strands
- Gluing of chippings, fibers and strands
Mixing plastics and mineral substances:
- Creation of fleeces (equipment for spreading fibers, chippings, strands, plastic pellets etc.)
- Unwinders and winders for paper, plastic and rubber webs
- Presses (laboratory presses, presses for intermittent processing, steam presses, ContiRoll® press)
