Resource saving recycling economy – safe and environmentally friendly

Against the background of limited interim storage facilities and a lack of final disposal options on the one hand, and following the thought of a recycling economy in the nuclear industry, too, Siempelkamp was quick to develop an opportunity to recycle contaminated metallic residual substances from the operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Through the unique recycling possibility in our casks for the transportation and storage of radioactive waste, resources are saved and final disposal volumes are reduced.

Due to customer enquiries, it became necessary in the 90s to think about recycling possibilities for metals with natural radioactivity and toxic chemical contaminations. Through the development of special filtering technology and the creation of a dedicated melting plant, the process of melting decontamination could now also be successfully applied in the oil, gas and chlorine gas industries, to name but a few examples.

In consistent development, the thought of a recycling economy was successfully extended to concrete waste from the dismantling of nuclear facilities.
