Nuclear Power Indispensable for the Foreseeable Future!

True to this motto, approx. 1,400 partners met at this year's Annual Meeting on Nu-clear Technology from 4 to 6 May 2010, at bcc - Berlin Congress Center. On the occasion of the opening, President of the German Atomic Forum Dr. Ralf Gueldner claimed: "Those who question nuclear energy must come up with realistic alternatives. Faced with the formidable task of ensuring electricity production that is equally secure, affordable and climate-compatible, any rhetoric that attempts to reduce the problem to simple black and white terms will lead to a dead end!" Pros and cons were discussed on the podium and presented at plenary addresses. The number of pillars needed for the bridge nuclear technology to the era of alternative energies, could not be conclusively determined by mutual consent.

Again this year, the Siempelkamp Nuclear Technology booth at the collateral trade show was a favoured meeting point for our customers as well as for interested conference participants. Together with our subsidiary companies we impressively pre-sented our wideranging product and service portfolio "Products and Services for Nuclear Power Plants". Right when entering the congress center, the Siempelkamp outdoor-advertising with its large-scaled project illustrations aroused curiosity of the participants and also led to interesting and informative conversations at our stand.

Retention of competence within the nuclear technology as well as promotion of young talents were again in 2010 one of the essential topics of the event. The advancement award of 1,000 EUR, annually sponsored by Siempelkamp for young scientists, was presented by Dr. Wolfgang Steinwarz to graduate engineer Heiko Herbell of KIT, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, for the "Numeric analysis on stability of downward directed steam condensation" - Congratulations!

Numerous events with show and music as well as culinary delicacies within the trade show completed the programme of the Annual Meeting on Nuclear Technology 2010 on the social evening at the first day of the event. Eyecatcher of the evening was a perfect Marlene-Dietrich-Illusion, jointly presented by GNS and Siempelkamp. The artist Annika Lind and her backing group enthused the audience with international songs from the repertoire of unforgettable stars. Following the highly acclaimed performance, our "Marlene Dietrich" stood by the Siempelkamp people and the audiance for photo shoots - a memorable experience for many of the Siempelkamp visitors.

Sincere thanks are given to all colleagues who have worked hard to make this convention our success.
