Successful sale for Siempelkamp in Eastern Europe: In May 2010 the Russian company OOO DOK Kalevala signed the contract for a complete Siempelkamp OSB plant which will be built at the Petrozawodsk location in the Karelien province. Here, the Krefeld specialist has positioned itself as the single-source provider of wood-based material plants.
Next to a 9’ x 50.4 m ContiRoll® press, the large order for our new Russian customer, headquartered in St. Petersburg, incorporates a comprehensive Siempelkamp product range. The scope of supply includes the complete equipment for the front-end area ranging from the wood-yard, to the de-barker, to the chipper, to the screens, to the glue blending system to the discharge bins. Downstream of the forming and press line equipped with the ContiRoll® press are two double-diagonal saws, a cooling and stacking line, a high-stack storage system, a cut-to-size line as well as a packing line.
Siempelkamp's 'all from one source' concept for this order also includes a complete energy plant from Siempelkamp Energy Systems (SES) and a dryer from Büttner. A special characteristic of this project is the two-phase concept: After completion of the first phase, the plant will have a daily output of 750 m³; after an expansion, which is part of the second phase, the daily output will double to 1,500 m³! The forming and press line as well as the finishing equipment are already designed for these maximum outputs. Additional machinery for the front-end area will be set up at a later time. The enormous advantage for the customer: With this concept, production will not have to be stopped in order to achieve the higher capacity level. The 50 MW output of the energy plant will increase in the course of the two-phase concept to 100 MW with the installation of a second energy plant. Sicoplan will be responsible for the planning, engineering, and startup for this project.
OSB for the building industry This plant will produce OSB in different sizes. Board thickness will range from 6 to 40 mm. A tongue and groove board line, which will also be installed, will produce flooring boards. These boards will be used within the group. As a part of the building group Kompakt, OOO DOK Kalevala has a high demand of OSB which it uses in the construction of large industrial buildings.
The Kalevala site offers the best location for the raw material supply. 90% of the wood used in production will be from the local aspen forest. This type of wood is very suitable for OSB production because it is very light and it is perfect for building boards due to its light visual appearance.
Construction start for this large project is anticipated for June 2011; the first board is projected for March 2012. Full capacity of the first construction phase will be reached in March 2012. “This contract represents a successful business venture for us in the Eastern European market. To be part of a large project with such a comprehensive product range speaks in favor of our concept,” says Dr.-Ing. Hans-W. Fechner, CEO Siempelkamp Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH & Co. KG, Krefeld. The order is part of a total investment by Kalevala of 150 million Euros.
Successful business trend in Eastern Europe This order represents only one of five orders received from Eastern Europe for which con-tracts have already been signed. Next to the OSB plant for Kalevala, Siempelkamp will supply four additional plants for MDF to Eastern Europe. We also submitted the winning bid for two additional projects. One of these projects includes an insulation board plant for the Republic of Belarus. Currently, Siempelkamp has four new plants in various stages of completion in Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine. To date, already 6 plants with Siempelkamp ContiRoll® technology produce an output of ap-prox. 2 million m³ in Eastern Europe. Plants that are currently in the completion stages will add 1.5 million m³ to this figure; plants from new contracts will add 2 million m³. When all is said and done, Siempelkamp plants will represent a total output of approx. 5.5 million m³ of wood-based material products in Eastern Europe. “Eastern Europe is coming – just as we have always predicted,” emphasizes Hans-Joachim Galinski, responsible for Eastern European sales at Siempelkamp. “With our expanded range of products we are best equipped to meet customer requirements for complete plants.”
