Construction of general machinery
Rolling mills
At the Siempelkamp Foundry, both the roll housing and frame as well as the smaller chocks and inserts for rolling mills are cast from cast iron with nodular graphite. The mill housings have a raw cast weight of up to 160,000 kg. The smaller chocks and inserts can weigh up to around 15,000 kg.
Machine tools
In the past, gray cast iron was often used for general machine tool construction. However, thanks to excellent mechanical parameters, cast iron with spherical graphite has now gradually replaced gray cast iron in this area.
